is a Buddhist mantra associated with Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (also known as Earth Store Bodhisattva or Jizo Bosatsu) that is recited to alleviate suffering, remove obstacles, and eliminate negative karma.

is a prayer to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, a Bodhisattva for hell beings. He always tries his best in removing beings bad karma, helping them escape from the depths of prison.


Some followers of Mahayana Buddhism have a belief in demons, afflicted and vindictive spirits that can somehow contact the living and disturb them. Therefore, in Mahayana Buddhism, we can find many bodhisattvas who are said to be able to help remove these disturbing spirits.


If you have any trouble caused by spirits, think of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and recite his name many times. The bodhisattva is often prayed to by the poor, the sick, the depressed, and those who are troubled by nightmares or wandering ghosts.


In Japan, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is highly respected, and statues of him appear in abundance, especially in cemeteries and resorts. Traditionally, the Bodhisattva has been worshiped as the guardian of Mizuko's soul, the soul of a miscarriage or aborted fetus. Firefighters are also believed to be under His protection.
